Understanding ‘Jhooth’ (Falsehood) in Gurbani

In this context, "jhooth" does not mean a deliberate lie, but refers to transience and impermanence. Everything in the material world—wealth, relationships, beauty, fame, status, even our physical body—will eventually perish. We see people building empires, chasing pleasures, or getting consumed by emotional attachments, only to face disappointment, loss, and death. This is the illusion or Māyā that Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji speaks of.

ਇੱਥੇ "ਝੂਠ" ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਗੋਂ ਅਸਥਿਰਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਸਵੰਤਤਾ ਹੈ। ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੀ ਹਰ ਚੀਜ਼—ਧਨ, ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇ, ਸੋਹਣਾਪਨ, ਸ਼ੋਹਰਤ, ਰੁਤਬਾ, ਅਜਿਹੀ ਹੱਦ ਤੱਕ ਕਿ ਸਾਡਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਵੀ—ਇੱਕ ਦਿਨ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ। ਅਸੀਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਸਮਰਾਜ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਰਸ ਭੋਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਦੌੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਾਂ ਸੰਵੇਦਨਾਤਮਕ ਲਗਾਵਾਂ 'ਚ ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਆਖਰਕਾਰ ਉਹ ਨਿਰਾਸ਼ਾ, ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਜਾਂ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਜੀ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

I am a Punjabi and have been listening to Bhai Ranjit Singh ji's discourses. In my view, his messages are not only for Sikhs but affect other people too who may not be sikhs (I am myself a non-sikh). I feel that some of the discourses need to be translated to Hindi and English to start with.
